WHAT IS YOGA?
Yoga is a complete system of mental and physical
training that can be enjoyed by anyone at any age. Yoga consists of
asanas (body postures) and pranayama (breathing techniques). The
most popular form of yoga in the United States is called Hatha (“balance”)
yoga. According to yoga philosophy, a calm mind produces
regular breathing and a relaxed body and vice versa.
Its effects of relaxation, increased flexibility,
strength, vitality, improved concentration and immune system
function are now well known and documented. Use of yoga in healing
musculo-skeletal problems and training athletes and dancers is
in the news daily.
Many people have indicated they have found yoga useful in reducing
stress, decreasing fatigue, helping to alleviate menstrual problems, including PMS, reducing
or eliminating back and/or joint pain, helping stress related conditions
such as anxiety, depression and insomnia, helping with circulatory
disorders and respiratory disorders such as asthma and bronchitis
and reducing or alleviating headaches and migraines.
Lakeside Yoga and Fitness' shared classes are hatha yoga in style; however, teaching is also influenced by kundalini, Kripalu and Inyengar styles of yoga.
Private and shared kundalini yoga classes are also available.
